A single site Shiraz Mataro blend comprising 60% Shiraz and 40% Mataro from the 'Springs Hill Vineyard', Blewitt Springs.

This is a wine we simply could not ignore entertaining when it came to the offer of some Mataro from Springs Hill. Having seen this Mataro through a different lens previously we knew of its quality and immediately both thought… a Shiraz/Mataro!

A barrel selected blend of these two single vineyard wines. The Mataro and Shiraz components were made separately and blended post maturation.

This vintage has delivered what we hoped for and suspected when blending these two varieties. It speaks clearly of Springs Hill, with varietal purity, medium-weight structure and savouriness at its core. Blue fruits, violets and darker spice notes bring complexity to both the aroma and palate, while the palate itself is expansive without losing its sense of proportion. Its most endearing quality, though, is that it tastes, and can only taste, of Springs Hill Vineyard.

"This is the second release of the Wendouree-inspired blend (60/40% shiraz/mataro) from the Springs Hill vineyard. This year though, Skye Salter and Charlie Seppelt own that vaunted Blewitt Springs site. And what a wine it is – one I just want to nose, drawing in its aromatic spray of violets, lavender, black spices, dried mint, blueberry, Earl Grey tea, tart boysenberry, cracked pepper, tar and iodine. It’s just as good on the palate, settling in at mid-weight, but so expansively, such is the à point balance of palate perfume, fruit weight, finely inscribed tannins and keen freshness. Such a complex wine of effortlessly heady detail, and just such a joy to drink. Simply brilliant!"
